The Government announced the ‘Agneepath’ scheme, Rajnath Singh, deploying the defense minister and the three Service chiefs to deflect criticism that it will undermine the armed forces’ professionalism, ethos, and fighting spirit to militarization civil society.
The process of employing soldiers, sailors, and flyers this year will begin on an “all-India, basis under the Agnipath scheme, This year, 46,000 vacancies in the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and India Air Force will be filled through Agneepath Scheme under the approval of the PM Modi-led cabinet committee.

Agneepath Scheme
This scheme involves a recruitment process for individuals below the rank of officer, with the object of arranging fitter, younger herds on the front lines, and many of whom will be on four-year contracts. It’s a scheme that will give the Army, Navy, and Air Force more new or young individuals.
Applicability
Under this scheme, both men and women between the ages of 17.5 and 21 will be brought into the armed forces.
Girls under the given age limit are open for the Agneepath entry, while there is no such reservation for women under this scheme.
Eligibility Criteria
All three services (the Army, Navy, and Air Force) will be enrolled through an online system, with specific assemblies and campus interviews conducted by recognized technical colleges such as Industrial Training Institutes and the National Skills Qualifications. Registrations will be on an ‘All India’ basis, with suitable ages ranging from 17.5 to 21 years old. Agniveers will encounter the medical requirements for enlistment in the armed forces. Agniveers’ educational qualifications will continue to be general for enrolment in many categories.
Salary Package
First-year Rs 30,000 will be the monthly salary of an Agniveer soldier. Rupees 9,000 per month will be deducted from their salaries and this amount will go to a collective account i.e. Seva Nidhi and Seva Nidhi package. Seva Nidhi Package will be tax-free and exempted from tax. After four years, the Seva Nidhi package is around Rs 11.71 lakh.
There’s also a non-contributory insurance cover of Rs 48 lakh provided to soldiers for the duration of their service period
Terms of service under Agneepath
After completion of four years of service, 25% of the Agniveers will be retained based on merit, willingness, and medical fitness. After that, they serve for a full term of another 15 years. While the other 75% of Agniveers will leave the force.
